Red Ribbon S'mores Chocolate Cake

Y'all know I'm a huge fan of chocolate, and as an added info, I'm also a fan of marshmallows, and putting them together is BLISS.

My boyfriend of 4 months brought this last mother's day. He was supposed to buy chocolate mousse for my mum (her favorite) but it was out of stock, so he bought S'mores Chocolate Cake instead.

I actually didn't know what he brought until after dinner (He arrived for lunch), when my mum decided to eat the cake. When I saw the sliced cake, my mouth watered and I just had to have a slice, despite my stomach being full of my mum's famous and very delish beef and mushroom stew.

It's a layered chocolate cake. Chocolate cake at the bottom, then s'mores, then choco cookie, then smore's, then chococake. On top is a thin coat of chocolate icing with a cream drop and a thin square of milk chocolate, side by side. On the middle (top) of the cake is caramel syrup.

So, when I tasted the cake. OMG! It was sooooo heavenly. The sweetness was perfect. The cookie balanced the overall feel of the cake. Soft but crunchy! YES!

It's available in Red Ribbon which costs Php 315 - 520 per cake. Check it out here

So the overall grade
Taste - 28/30
Cost - 13/20
Presentation - 19/25
Texture - 30/25

Total - 90/100

Gerry's Grill

We usually go to Subic for our family vacation. Everytime we're there, we make it a point to eat at Gerry's Grill. The Gerry's Grill in Subic is a very busy establishment. You can see a line of chairs outside for those waiting to be seated. They have a mini playground at the entrance to keep the busy kids occupied. Gerry's Grill is just a huge square restaurant at the beach front. You can opt to seat at the airconditioned room, bar, smoking area (or general area), and the beach area. They have RnB music playing loudly(I think it's loud because it seems that the sound is muffled by the noise of chatting customers). They have a HUUUUUUUGE Flat screen TV above the bar which has NBA playing on it

Our usual order is Seafood Adobo rice, Grilled tuna, grilled squid, and of course Sisig.

The Grilled Squid and Sisig have nothing special in their flavor. It's just the regular Grilled Squid and Sisig. The Grilled Tuna on the other hand is very scrumptious. You can taste a sort of buttery flavor infused with a grilled taste. They serve a medium sized cut, about 3 in X 3in X 3in.

The seafood adobo rice is a best seller in our family. It's black with squid ink, with bits of mussels, shrimps. I don't know if there's any other seafood mixed there, but all I can say is that it's truly a seafood lover's heaven!

This holy week, of course we went to subic, and of course we went to Gerry's Grill. We added a different viand this time. Crispy Tadyang. When it was served on our table, we can tell that it's delicious. But we were dubious regarding its crispiness. It has a crispy outside and a very moist and chewy inside. It tasted like beef but we were wondering how come it was so tender. We we're really amazed at it's tenderness and crispiness.

For our drinks we ordered Bottomless Iced Tea which is like all the other Iced Teas (probably Nestea); and Fresh Buko.

Fresh buko is buko juice served chilled in it's shell. When you finish your juice, you can have your shell cut in half and eat the flesh inside! yum.

We're 6 in the family and our bill amounted to more or less 1,200.

Here're my ratings:
Food Taste - 22/25
Food Plating - 8/10
Food and drink selection - 9/10
Drink taste - 10/15
Ambience - 18/20
Affordability - 14/20

total: 81/100

Tender Bobs

My family went to Greenhills for lunch, and as we were on our way to the parking lot, my mum told us to choose which restaurant we'd like to dine in. I said i wanted steak so we marched into Tender Bobs after parking the car.

It's a small restaurant, about 9-12 tables were crammed inside. and a few more outside. What made me like Tender Bobs was their chairs. they were sofas... the booth style couches. i love sitting on those. They're so soft on the butt and back :)

So anyway, the food tastes like any other steak house. AND the prices are affordable. I ordered the cheaper kind of ribeye steak and it costs Php 290. There's a more expensive rib eye for 460 (i think). The ribeye steak was sooooo soft. you can cut it with your spoon and it sort of melts in your mouth. I dont like their steak sauce though. I was looking for an A1 steak sauce taste, theirs lacked the steak sauce flavor. Their gravy was buttery and tasted good. It really matched the steaks. I also have to commend their chicken. I forgot what it was called, but the tase was so heavenly. It has cheese on top and the chicken was very juicy despite the fact that it was white meat. YUM

We ordered Buffalo style chicken tenders and clam chowder for appetizers. They have a different way o fcalling those, grumblers i think. The Buffalo Chicken Tenders were great! well not as good as Don Henrico's Buffalo Chicken, but they almost got that savory taste! The clam chowder was good. I have nothing to compare it too since that was the 1st time I have eaten Clam Chowder. The served the chowder on a big, round, bowl-shaped toasted bread. It was delish :)

Their service was great to. When we entered, a waitress greeted us and led us to a table for 6. Their waitress was prompt, and the best thing is they always smile :)

So, overall I'd rate them an 9 out of 10 :)

here's a the break down (in percent):

Ambience - 10/15
Comfort - 13/15
Service - 17/20
Food (taste) - 24/30
Affordability - 11/20

total: 90/100

Brownies from Becky's Kitchen

I'm a chocolate lover. I can say that I am addicted to chocolates, and one way to indulge in chocolate is to eat brownies.

I found out about these brownies when i opened or fridge and i saw a red box. Since i am a pastry person that knows that square boxes inside the fridge are usually pastries, I opened the box and saw fluffy brownies inside. I took a bite and I was instantly brought to heaven. The brownies were soft and chewy. It has a fudgy consistency and the sweetness of the chocolate is balanced by the walnuts.

I give this brownie a 4.5 out 5 stars. I wont give it a 5 stare rating because i like it to be more chocolatey, but then, that is my preference. My boyfriend finds it too sweet. haha.

You can buy these brownies at Becky's Kitchen (duh) located at:
  1. 1061 P. Ocampo (formerly Vito Cruz) cor. Bautista Sts, Singalong Manila, Philippines tel: 525.16.48/523.42.45
  2. Community Center Suha St. Valle Verde I, Pasig City, Philippines tel: 671.76.06
Here are 2 pictures i took:

Propel Orange

from the makers ofGatorade..
comes the new propel orange..

haha

Propel is a vitamin water, perfect for those who hate the taste of water, like me.

It can be bought in almost every convenience store for 20 pesos and 17 pesos in Pepsi stalls (as of January 2009)

It tastes like vitamin C diluted in water. (I haven't tried doing it yet) and it comes in this hard to open blue bottle.

The trick in opening this bottle is to squeeze the bottle while turning the cap :) (the friendly Pepsi Lady in LRT@ Legarda station told me)

It's cool
It's fresh
It's ORANGE
